Design Icon – Project

Meet Icon: Arizona Biltmore

The Arizona Biltmore is an Arizona and national Iconic Hotel. Since its 1929 debut the architecturally significant hotel has charmed and entertained locals and worldwide visitors. Chase McCarther, a protege’ of Frank Lloyd Wright, is the architect of record. Mr. Wright consulted on the construction. But it is regarded as a Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece. Constructed of the “Biltmore block” the hotel has attracted celebrities and dignitaries for decades. When it was recently purchased by the Blackstone Group, it was slated for a significant renovation. The hotel selected Virserius Studio, PHX Architecture and Jim Smith of Serving the Nation, Inc. for the remodel and restoration. For Architect Erik Peterson of PHX Architecture, it was the realization of a life long goal. The Architect has been driven by Wright on design principals since childhood. Studying, working and practicing in the masters footsteps. He had tried multiple times to secure the project in the past, but his presentation for preserving, updating and creating a new program for the octagonal lawn won him his coveted prize. With his team, the interiors design firm and design consultant they set about redesigning a Design Icon.
